About Us

Picture
Allen Taylor is the founder of Conservation Tree Care.  He is an Eagle Scout and graduated from the University of Vermont Rubenstein School of Environmental and Natural Resources with a BS in Forestry.  His passion for ski mountaineering led him to the Pacific Northwest shortly after graduating and he has never looked back. Allen is a ISA Board Certified Master Arborist (PN-7316B), holds the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), and is a Registered Consulting Arborist (RCA#643) with the American Society of Consulting Arborists. When he isn't working, Allen spends his time running, biking, climbing, and skiing; bringing Rainier along whenever possible.

Miles Anderson grew up in Woodinville crisscrossing under archways of salmonberry thicket with a walking stick and Swiss Army knife. When he graduated with a B.S. in Horticulture from Washington State University he was acquainted with the mossy Snoqualmie River Valley. Miles stewards wetland habitat and enjoys observing wild plants. He is an ISA Certified Arborist (PN-8923A), holds the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) and seeks out training from arborists and people who understand trees as charismatic pillars of our habitat. He is also passionate about growing a little food, building cozy spaces, and salvaging materials for projects.

Mike Schock hails from Illinois where he grew up climbing trees and exploring the outdoors. He earned a B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been working in the field since. He is an ISA Certified Arborist (PN-9122A). He's new to arboriculture and is happy to bring his varied background to the team. Outside of work he likes to take part in the simpler things in life, cooking, gardening, and enjoying the splendor of the outdoors.

Shelby Brewster's interest in understanding the physical world she lives in led her to pursue her B.S. in Geological Sciences from the Ohio State University. Less than two weeks after receiving her diploma, she packed her life in her sedan and headed west to work for the Idaho Conservation Corps doing hands-on work with chainsaws and trees. Inspired by her sister who is a climbing arborist, she decided to step into the arboriculture world. Shelby is an avid reader, camper, and hiker. She spends much of her time taking care of her unsustainable amount of houseplants.

Aliya Baker has lived in the Pacific Northwest for all of her life. She helps out with phones, scheduling, and other administrative tasks.
When she is not working she spends her time with her husband and family, painting, hiking, longboarding, and reading.

Anne Freudenthal grew up in Alaska being inspired by her father's passion for the outdoors, and her mother's green thumb.  Anne's interest in arboriculture and horticulture led her to this company. After two years full time work as a ground person she left to pursue a career as a Seattle City Light Lineworker. She is also an ISA Certified Arborist (PN-9128A).  She now helps out occasionally taking care of website maintenance, SEO, online marketing, administrative work, and weekend field work.

Rainier joined the team in October of 2017.  He's a German Shorthaired Pointer mix who likes to play in the snow.  Sometimes he helps with clean-up by carrying sticks around and chewing on them. Mostly he sleeps in the cab of the truck or barks at passing dogs. When he isn't working (which is all of the time) he spends his time restlessly awaiting the next trip into the mountains with Allen or Anne.

Conservation Tree Care and the Environment

When I look at the state of our local and global environment I am deeply concerned about the negative effect of human activities. One of the reasons I wanted to start Conservation Tree Care was to build a company with harm reduction and environmental improvement at its core.
Our corporate mission is to:
  • Ensure employee safety and wellbeing.
  • Provide the highest quality scientifically based tree care possible.
  • Find and cultivate a customer base who value trees and the benefits they provide.
  • Take all reasonable steps to reduce our environmental impact and to improve the health of the local and global environment.
  • Strive to educate the general public about the value of trees and the urban forest.
  • Constantly re-evaluate our practices and look for ways to improve.
  • Give back to the arboricultural community and work to elevate the status of the profession.
At a quick glance we might not look much different than other tree services. Upon closer inspection the differences become much more apparent. Unfortunately at this time there is no affordable alternative to using a diesel truck and diesel wood chipper to process large amounts of material. My goal is to position the company to be one of the first in the country to run an electric truck and chipper as soon as the technology becomes available and cost effective. Until that time there are many other steps we are taking to reduce our impact.  These include:
  • Strongly discouraging the removal of healthy trees that can be reasonably and safely retained
  • Encouraging and implementing tree planting (very few tree services do)
  • Implementing pruning techniques designed to reduce the need for recurring maintenance (structural pruning)
  • Removing invasive species and trees which are planted in inappropriate locations, replacing them with more appropriate species, or in a more appropriate place
  • Treating trees to help them survive disease and the stress of living in a changing, urban environment
  • Minimize use of small gas powered engines (highly emissive), use battery powered tools whenever possible
  • Work with customers to safely retain aging trees
  • Provide arboricultural consulting services so that customers may make informed decisions about the management of their trees
I recognize that often doing the right thing for the environment can mean a reduced profit margin in the short term. I believe however that promoting the urban forest and tree retention actually makes sound business sense when you look past the current quarter and view success in a decade or multi decade long framework. My goal is to build a business that will provide value to its customers while also helping to bring the green movement to the field of arboriculture.
